The position

The Collection Director, also known as the Style Director or Designer Manager, works in a clothing or accessories retailer, a styling office, a styling agency or a design office. The collection manager occupies a central position within a company, working with a wide range of different professions such as buyers, pattern makers, stylists, suppliers, etc.

The Collection Director is responsible for understanding trends and creating the various collections: he/she monitors the market, shops, compiles trend books, etc., then draws up collection plans by theme, model and material, and finally validates the prototypes, with particular emphasis on the choice of fabrics and fitting, following fittings carried out in collaboration with the design department.

The Collection Manager manages his teams. He must respect a pre-defined budget. They supervise the purchasing of materials and generally manage planning and pricing. Finally, he/she must manage the progress of collections by analyzing sales results.

Profile requirements

  • Higher education in fashion design, styling or a related field.
  • Significant experience managing collections in the fashion industry, ideally with a portfolio that demonstrates a history of successful collections.

Remuneration

The remuneration of a collection director ranges from €60 to €120K, depending on the profile’s experience, the size of the company, the brand’s reputation and the team to be managed.
